Hey guys, thanks for coming back. Today I’m sharing these Contemporary Lake Mansion Sketches. Usually, I use this kind of post to talk about my Digital Sketching Learning Process. However, this post is about the project itself.
This Lakehouse is a commission from an honorable family from Dallas that wanted to tear down their existing house to build a new enhanced one at their place overlooking Lake Texoma. Firstly, they were always leaning towards Contemporary Style, which, as you must already know, is my comfort zone. Then we started with several different concepts with different approaches.
We discussed previous and later ideas, but I’m bringing this one specifically since this was the Eureka moment of the process. I decided to break apart a building for the guest suites and then connect it through a bridge to the house’s central area. That idea was a game-changer, and everything started turning around it for the rest of the process.
Firstly, we moved it to the rear so it could enjoy the views of the Lake. Then, the idea of walking through a glazed bridge from the main building to the Guest Wing made the owners reconsider, so we switched the Master Suite with the guest’s areas. Now the Master Suite is on that separate building.
The house ended up having a U shape around the Pool on the rear, and the Bridge enjoys the Lake Views, the Landscaping, the Pool, and all the Outdoor Living amenities.
Finally, in an unexpected turn of events, they loved the spatial experience we were creating so much that they decided to move from Dallas to this Lakehouse. An oversized Lakehouse turned into a Small Mansion at the Lake. So we have to resize the spaces and add another set of elements that we didn’t consider initially.
This story allows me to tell you this, guys. The essential element of any project is a good concept. In this case, that idea changed not just a house but a family’s life forever.
