Happy 4th of July y´all!
As I sit down to write this, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of gratitude and awe. This year marks my second 4th of July as a resident of the United States, a country that has offered me refuge, opportunities, and a chance to dream anew. Coming from Venezuela, a nation where freedom and stability have become rare luxuries, celebrating Independence Day here holds a special significance.
When I arrived in the United States just a year ago, I was struck by its sheer diversity and vibrancy. Every corner of this country tells a story of resilience, innovation, and hope. Today, as I join in the festivities, I am reminded of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to secure the freedoms we enjoy.
Independence Day is more than just fireworks and barbecues. It celebrates the core values that define this nation: liberty, equality, and justice. These principles resonate deeply with me, having witnessed the erosion of such freedoms in my homeland. I no longer take for granted the ability to speak freely, pursue one’s dreams, and live without fear.
I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the American citizens who made my journey to this land possible. Your generosity, kindness, and unwavering support have been a beacon of hope during my transition. You have welcomed me with open arms and become the family I cherish deeply. Your actions have not only changed my life but also reminded me of the inherent goodness that exists in the world.
However, my journey has also given me a unique perspective on American politics. In these times of ambiguity and division, every American must remember that freedom is not a given. It is a precious gift that must be nurtured and protected. As someone who has experienced life without these liberties, I urge my fellow Americans to value and care for the freedoms that define this great nation.
Celebrating the 4th of July is a reminder of the strength and resilience that have shaped the United States. It is a day to honor the past, cherish the present, and look forward to a future where the ideals of freedom and equality continue to flourish. Let us not take these privileges for granted but instead work together to ensure they endure for generations to come.
Today, as I watch the fireworks light up the sky, I will be filled with a sense of pride and hope. Pride in being part of a nation that stands as a beacon of freedom, and hope that together, we can navigate these challenging times with unity and determination.
Happy Independence Day, America. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms and for allowing me to be part of this incredible journey!
