James Richards’ Book!!

The first book I got when I started my research about the Urban Sketchers was Gabriel Campanario´s  The Art of Urban sketching, at the end of the book there is a list of his favorites Sketchers colleagues, i randomly took names from that list, stared googling and then I found some specific sketches that made me jump and said “That’s it, that’s the way I want my sketches to look!” 

Since I found  my very first sketches from James Richards I´ve been following his work on social media, that was a couple of years before and, after a long trip from the US to Venezuela, finally…  I got THE BOOK in my hands!

The Book is quite a piece, hard cover, more than 250 pages full of images, samples of his work and step by techniques perfectly illustrated. Text and images are well balanced, not just graphically speaking but in terms of content too, there is a lot to learn from his words too.

Francis D.K. Ching writes the forewords and the purchase of it gives you access to tutorial videos, what else can a fan ask?

El primer libro que tuve cuando comencé mi investigación sobre los Urban Sketchers Fue El Arte del Urban Sketching de Gabriel Campanario, en aquel entonces escribí esta reseña. Al final del libro hay una lista de sus colegas Sketchers favoritos, use esa lista para googlear algunos nombres de manera aleatoria y fue cuando conseguí unos sketches específicos que me hicieron saltar y decir “Así es! Así es que quiero que se vean mis Sketches!”

Desde que encontré mis primeros dibujos de James Richards lo he estado siguiendo en las redes sociales, eso hace dos años atrás y al fin.. tengo EL LIBRO en mis manos!

El libro es bastante completo, tapa dura, más de 250 páginas llenas de imágenes, muestras de su trabajo y técnicas paso a paso perfectamente ilustradas. El texto y las imágenes están bien equilibrados, no solo en términos gráficos, sino también en términos de contenido, hay mucho que aprender de sus palabras también.

Francis D.K. Ching escribe el prólogo y la compra del libro te da acceso a videos tutoriales del mismo Richards ¿qué más puede pedir un fan?
